Train core performance skills by exploring the world of masks.
This 3-day intensive will focus on: •Creating clear physical characters •Simple silent stories that move your audience •Making your actions clear on stage •Rhythm and timing of dramatic comedy •Sharing every step of your character’s journey with the audience •Applying these skills to other genres of performance
An Expressive Full mask covers the actors face revealing the subtle, expressive movements that appear in their body. When their conscious and unconscious movements find harmony with the expressive structure of the mask, a unique character comes to life. Each masked character has its own shape, dynamic and relationship to the world. In this workshop we will learn how to enter into the state of these characters and see what they have to teach us about drama, comedy and the act of being human.
We begin with the core techniques that will allow you to play a mask and bring the audience into your character’s experience on stage. We then improvise scenes in the masks, using simple gestures and our relationship to each other in space to create surprising poetry without speaking a word.
Finally, we will explore ways of transferring what we learn from the masks to other styles of performance and theatrical play.
All of the masks are hand crafted by David Poznic and Francesco Procopio.
